A new wave of marketing: community comes first
Customers are asking brands to be human. You need to make sales. We can do both.
Over a decade of marketing experience
Iāve spent twelve years helping consumer brands shape their marketing in a way which actually feels good. Great for you, terrible for my crowās feet.
My career began in agency roles - starting in fashion PR in Manchester and then taking up a Head of Social Content role at a branding agency for three years. I eventually moved in-house into a Marketing Manager role for an interiors brand, and then went onto share my skills as a freelancer.
Itās been four years of doing the freelance thing. Iāve worked on rebrand rollouts, email marketing, social media management and consultancy projects for B2C and B2B brands.
The thing that unites them all? They want marketing departments that drive impact. Thatās where I come in.
Brand marketing is evolving. There is no longer a right way. What you need is an experienced marketer to confidently uncover your way.
Does community really matter for brands?
Gone are the days of purely transactional relationships. A purchase is no longer about what you have but what you represent, and that makes branding very, very personal.
Some of the most successful brands right now lead with community and storytelling. They understand that customer loyalty is about more than seamless shopping experiences - which are a given for the modern consumer. True customer connection is in the partners that brands align with, the values they uphold, and their ability to create meaningful conversation and experiences, both on and offline.
Virality isnāt the measure of success. It feels good, but itās just a moment in time. Real success is in having an established, engaged community who know your brand like their best mate.
At the heart of community is a shared mindset. A shared mindset builds trust. And trust drives sales.
